Install Openfire On CentOS 7

OpenfireĀ  (previously known as Wildfire, and Jive Messenger) is a real time collaboration (RTC) server. It is licensed under the Open Source Apache License.Openfire is an instant messaging (IM) and groupchat server that uses XMPP server written in Java.Openfire is incredibly easy to setup and administer, but offers rock-solid security and performance.

Openfire supports the following features:

* Web-based administration panel
* Plugin interface
* Customizable
* SSL/TLS support
* User-friendly web interface and guided installation
* Database connectivity.
* LDAP connectivity
* Platform independent, pure Java
* Full integration with Spark (XMPP client)
* Can support more than 50,000 concurrent users

Download and install Openfire

We can download the rpm directly to /home from Ignite Real time website.


Install it using yum command

yum install -y /home/openfire-3.9.3-1.i386.rpm

Install libraries

yum install -y glibc.i686

Start service after every reboot

chkconfig openfire on

And start the openfire service

systemctl start openfire.service

Update IPtables

firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-port=9090/tcp
firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-port=9091/tcp

firewall-cmd --reload

For Ubuntu/Debian//Linux Mint

# wget
# dpkg -i openfire_3.8.2_all.deb

After successful installation, Stop and Start the Openfire service.

# service openfire stop
# service openfire start

Noe you can enter in to the browser like “http://localhost:9090″ or “http://your-ip-address:9090″.
